I started the my bakery business as a small cake fridge in 2023. Throughout 2023 I had some time to myself and decided that I could bake something for all the tourists that were visiting North Roe through the summer.
Mission/ethos e.g. local ingredients, traditional recipes, sustainable baking. Selling my product will mean I will be able to use local ingredients such as Shetland butter and milk which helps to support our local dairy’s. Some of my recipes are old Shetland recipes that’s been passed through some generations and are still loved to this day such as Cissie’s hufsie and Nanny’s rock buns.

Who’s behind all this baking? Mairianne is the baker who makes everything from scratch and tries to keep a high standard throughout every step. My little sister Vaila has helped from the start we started this business together. Vaila bakes sometimes but has decided that her favourite job is packaging everything up so after school she will come along and package everything ready for going out to customers and shops. My other Peerie sister Amy has some favourite recipes that she helps with which include any type of rocky road, Tiffin, marshmallow log and sticky toffee pudding. My mam helps in the background, this includes helping with baking when things are busy! She has passed down a lot of great recipes. If she isn’t baking with me, then she is packaging. Her best recipes are Bannocks, Magnie’s Oatcakes, Cissie’s Husfies, Carrot cake and marshmallow log.
One of my skills is being able to bake gluten-free bakes and make them turn out just like a normal cake sometimes, you can’t tell if it is gluten-free or not. I became gluten free in 2023 and realised everything that was gluten-free was not enjoyable to eat. Took time learning recipes to make myself good food that’s not a chore to eat.
